Visit of Mr Jean-Luc Fugit, Deputy and President of the Conseil Supérieur de l’Energie, on the industrial demonstrator R-HYNOCA in Strasbourg

04/19/2023

On Wednesday 19 April, Haffner Energy was pleased to welcome Jean-Luc FUGIT, Deputy of the Rhône, President of the Conseil Supérieur de l’Energie and Vice-President of the OPECST on the site of our customer R-GDS in Strasbourg for the visit of our industrial demonstrator R-HYNOCA.

Welcomed by Martine Mack, Managing Director of R-GDS and Philippe Haffner, Chairman and CEO of Haffner Energy, Jean-Luc FUGIT was able to discover the patented HYNOCA® biomass thermolysis technology developed by Haffner Energy for the production of renewable hydrogen and biochar.

The result of a cooperation initiated in 2019 between R-GDS and Haffner Energy, the R-HYNOCA project is the first industrial demonstrator that enables local biomass to be converted into green hydrogen with a negative carbon footprint for decarbonised mobility. This unit will supply Strasbourg’s light vehicles and buses with green hydrogen from the future H2 station currently under construction.

After the visit, the Haffner Energy teams were able to discuss with Jean-Luc Fugit about the challenges of recognising the technology for producing hydrogen and renewable gas from biomass in the context of the revision of the national hydrogen strategy to be published in the coming months.

Jean-Luc Fugit
“Beyond the production of green hydrogen necessary for the decarbonisation of our industry and/or heavy mobility, the process put in place is versatile in terms of the types and quality (water content) of the biomass used, thus ensuring constant access to biomass that has no other competing use. At a time when we are working on the revision of the national hydrogen strategy expected at the beginning of the summer, technological neutrality must be our compass so that all modes of so-called “low-carbon” hydrogen production can be deployed, relying on the innovation capacity of our researchers, our industrialists and our territories.”

These exchanges allowed us to share our common vision on the need to promote technological neutrality to give ourselves every chance of achieving our ambitions in terms of decarbonisation, independence and energy transition.
